Cosby for President

The more I hear Bill Cosby's name in the news, the more I think he should run for office. He tells it like it is. He's blunt and to the point, and speaks very clearly so he cannot be misunderstood. The man doesn't worry about political correctness. We need someone like that in government.

Anyone who knows me understands that I can't stand political correctness, and that I'm a blunt person. I think that's why I respect Cosby. Cosby stands for high moral values and accountability. He doesn't believe in excuses or using racism to justify poor choices.

I find it interesting to observe how other people react to Bill Cosby's speeches. In particular, I like to hear what other black people have to say. (Notice I didn't say "African-American".)

(
SIDE RANT) I don't believe in that term. It's too politically correct, and it doesn't make sense. There are many white people (and other races) on the continent of Africa. If a white guy from Africa moved to America, would you call him "African-American"? Probably not, even though he's more African-American than Ray-Ray from Detroit. If you can't call everybody from Africa (who now live in America) African-American, then the term is bogus and means nothing. You can't use it to denote color unless everyone from that continent is the same color. And besides, hyphenated names annoy me.

(
SIDE, SIDE RANT) If you get married, take your husband's last name for crying out loud. Making your kid grow up confused is just plain stupid. A kid's family (and name) is where they get their identity from. If mommy's last name is different from daddy's last name, it makes for a lot of unneccessary questions.

If you were born and raised in America, then you're AMERICAN. Not African-American, not Mexican-American, not Irish-American, not Italian-American. JUST American. Got it? Likewise, if your maiden name is Smith and you marry a man named Finkelstein, then your name is now Finkelstein. It's not Smith-Finkelstein. Ok? Are we all on the same page now?

Ok, good. Now back to my original subject. What was it again? Oh yeah, Bill Cosby. Great guy. He tells people like it is, no matter if they like it or not. Sometimes, the truth hurts. Sometimes, it sounds abrasive. You know what I say to that? TOO BAD. If what he says offends you, then maybe you need to reflect upon your life and reconsider the choices you've made.

If Cosby's on a stage saying that some black people can't speak proper English, and that offends you...maybe it's YOU that has the problem. If you speak like a normal person and not some idiot making up jibberish, then what he says shouldn't offend you in the least. If he's up there talking about guys that get several women pregnant out of wedlock, skips out on them and/or goes to prison, it shouldn't bother you either...UNLESS you are one of those deadbeats that aren't supporting their kids because you're an idiot. If that's the case, then I HOPE he offends you. You SHOULD be offended, because you are part of a big problem in America. That problem is people having kids with no intention of raising them properly. When that happens, the kid becomes everybody's problem. And that's why Bill Cosby is so vocal about these issues.

He doesn't believe in making up excuses for your behavior, simply because of the color of your skin. You can be a moral and responsible person no matter if your skin is black, purple, white, yellow, brown or polka dotted.

Unfortunately, some black people in the media actually get upset with Cosby when he speaks out in a public forum. They don't get mad at him for what he's saying. They get mad at him for saying it out in the open. Now, what kind of sense does that make? If it's the truth, then it's the truth. It needs to be out in the open.

Some of the things he's saying are:
“People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we’ve got these knuckleheads walking around...the lower economic people are not holding up their end of the deal. These people are not parenting.” ...They are standing on the corner and they can’t speak English.”

"And these people are not parenting. They’re buying things for the kid. $500 sneakers, for what? They won’t buy or spend $250 on Hooked on Phonics." (clapping)

"Are you not paying attention, people with their hat on backwards, pants down around the crack. Isn’t that a sign of something, or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up (laughter and clapping ). Isn’t it a sign of something when she’s got her dress all the way up to the crack…and got all kinds of needles and things going through her body. What part of Africa did this come from? (laughter). We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans, they don’t know a damned thing about Africa."

"These people are fighting hard to be ignorant. There’s no English being spoken, and they’re walking and they’re angry. Oh God, they’re angry and they have pistols and they shoot and they do stupid things"

"And then they stand there in an orange suit and you drop to your knees, “(crying sound) He didn’t do anything, he didn’t do anything.” Yes, he did do it. And you need to have an orange suit on too" (referring to parents)
Cosby recently told the graduates at Spelman College (a college for black women):
"You have to know that it is time for you all to take charge. You have to seriously see yourselves not as the old women where the men stood in front and you all stood behind, because the men, most of them are in prison."

"Our race depends upon you and your sisters graduating all across the United States to realize that what's left is you."
All Cosby is saying is that people should hold themselves to a higher standard. I wholeheartedly agree. And I don't think that applies to JUST one race or group. It applies to everybody.

The other reason I like Bill is because he brought us Fat Albert and Picture Pages. Gotta love a guy that's as genuinely cool as Bill is.

Oh where can I start. I understand you feelings about marriage and taking on the husband's last name, but how do you feel about women divorcing their husbands and going back to their maiden name? Sure they won't have the same last name as thier kids, but that's ok.

I think the kids will be traumatized enough by the divorce to distract them from the name difference on that one. Mom's name is probably the last thing they'll be thinking about at that point.

I'm not a fan of divorce (especially when kids are involved). Marriages shouldn't be as casual/disposable as they are these days. But that's a topic for another rant.

If I agreed with you anymore than what I do Norm, I'd be you. Cosby is a truely amazing man and people get up in arms because he refused to say anything about race for so many years, even when people begged him to say something. Then when black culture is at one of it's lowest points, he speaks up, and people get mad. I don't get it. I say we need more people like the Coz.

I'm hungry. It's Jello time.

Sounds like there will be a little extra discussion there once you get on the divorce topic, so I'll save those comments for later.

To get back to the discussion at hand, love Cosby. As a black person, I think he has hit the nail on the head. People pop out babies these days just to see how much money they can get from the government. I heard about a woman who has 6 kids, no job (not a legal job anyway) and lives in a beautiful house worth about $300,000. She pays (Pause.... Sorry, I saw a bug out of the corner of my eye I needed to kill. At least it wasn't a spider) Where was I. Oh, this woman pays about $500 a month and the government picks up the rest of her mortgage every month. Now come on. Tell me that that isn't pathetic. I mean really. Are you so lazy that the only way you can make some money is by having kids. To make it even better, once she has the kids she doesn't take care of them. They are just a meal ticket. It's women like this that keep people that actually need help from getting.

I will say I was disappointed in the Fat Albert movie. I don't know. I just didn't do anything for me. I don't know about you guys, but I grew up with the Fat Albert cartoon and couldn't get enough of it. It was funny. That movie was CHEESEY.

Thanks for the support, ed b. I speak the truth, sir.

The point you bring up about the exploitation of our government programs is something that really bothers me in America. Not only do those kinds of people take money away from those who truly need it, but they also make the problem worse by creating more offspring that will likely continue in their same pitiful cycle of worthlessness. The part that REALLY bugs me is that you and I (honest taxpayers) foot the bill for it all. And heaven forbid a lawmaker even suggests taking money away from these programs! There's marching in the streets and riots if that were to happen. GET A DAMN JOB, people!

As far as the Fat Albert movie goes...I've only seen part of it. I was not impressed. I think it was more for the kids. They don't know what the original cartoon was like, so they don't know how much the movie sucks.

I'm a big fan of originals. I don't like when they do "re-makes" of everything just to make a buck.

I had a discussion with my neighbor about welfare and how people constantly screw us and Uncle Sam over.
I came up with the idea that for every kid you have after the first one, your pay goes down. So if you have one kid and you're on welfare, you get X amount of dollars a month, and every kid after that takes off $150 or so. So that it forces the lazy bastards to get a job.
My neighbor said that after the first kid the government pays for one full month of support, giving the parent a month to look for a job. If no job is found, the assistance ends. If a job is found, assistance in funding the child is continued.

I personally like mine better...well, because it's mine. My neighbor's idea was a bit more solid of an idea, though.

How about we just start a campaign to sterilize people? Kind of like Bob Barker does with spaying and neutering your pets.

We've got PLENTY of people in the world at this point. They don't ALL need to be breeding (obviously). Especially the ones that can't afford to feed and clothe them (and are making no attempt to change that).

Then, we could take the money saved from the welfare programs that support these people now and invest in some oil refineries. OR just reduce our taxes with the savings generated from getting the bums off the gubb-ment tit.

I once had a client (at my old job) whose maiden name was Sharp and she married a man with the last name Cockburn. Yeah, she hypenated it...Sharp-Cockburn. Unless the guys last name I'm going to marry is Fucknuts...I'm probably going to take his name. I can see some instances where a woman might not want to change her name completely...but those instances are few and far between and you can usually solve the problem by writing your name out in full. For example, if my maiden name was Sarah Jane Burgess and I married a guy with the last name of Staunch. I would drop my middle name so my new name would be Sarah Burgess Staunch. No hyphen needed.

There's a book that Bill Cosby wrote about education in this country. He wrote it with another author. I read it in college and hell if I can tell you the name of it. It was excellent. Bill Cosby is excellent.

I think a problem with the black community is that no one is telling them they are wrong. People are afraid to tell them they are wrong. It makes sense for it to come not from me, a white person, but from someone that is black. It hits home more, it hurts more...the truth hurts.

O.K., I know this may be a little off topic, but I'm pissed. First of all, I agree immensly with the way the welfare system is abused. It's no secret that there are certain men & women in this country who have pretty much made a business from the system by having babies, recieving child support, and welfare, section 8 housing, food stamps etc. And, I might add, this way of life is perpetuated down through generation after generation, because it has become a way of life for these people. You all know the story. Now add to this 11 million ILLEGAL immigrants, who already receive "some" welfare benefits (i.e. free medical, school lunches etc.). Now consider the fact that MOST of these ILLEGALS have little or no education, therefore will take jobs that pay little or nothing. Now, here's what really pisses me off...We all know that in America the average working person CANNOT live on minimum wage, nor would we want to live in poverty. Such person(s) would have to apply for some assistance just to survive. Now let's take the aforementioned ILLEGALS in this country and "LEGALIZE" them or give them AMNESTY. They now become eligible for FULL welfare benefits! What do you think they are going to do? Personally, I'm not against helping someone out in the cold, but I'm not going to burn my house down to do it.

By the way, I believe the numbers of ILLEGALS in this country is closer to 30 million, and about 6000 enter this country Illegally from San Diego to Texas every day!

I'm not white or black, but I'm not afraid to tell ANYONE that they're wrong. You're right...the truth hurts. Too bad. Suck it up. I don't follow the whole "elephant in the room" theory. If there's an elephant in the room, I'm going to be the first mofo yelling "HEY! THERE'S A F***ING ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!! Get him out of here before he shits all over the place!"

Roadhogg -

Preach on, brutha Roadhogg!! I'm with ya all the way. Unfortunately, there's no feasible way to get them out at this point in time. The problem's been going on for far too long (the unchecked border). Unless we adopt some sort of Gestapo to go door to door, they will always find a place to hide or blend into the woodwork. Kind of like a cockroach. Let me just say that I don't think there's an easy solution to this illegal immigrant problem.

The primary objective is to get that damn border closed off to stop the influx. That does nothing to address those already here though. I don't think we should reward law breakers with citizenship. However, if they do happen to do that, maybe their (legal) tax dollars will help pay for some of the programs they already take advantage of.

I don't really see much changing on this issue though. No matter what the government huffs and puffs about. It's all lip service as far as I'm concerned

Call me the optimist, but maybe this lip service will turn into reality.

Going back to BlondeVigilante's comments, I don't think that no one has ever tried to tell the black community or any community that is in the same situation the truth. I think people has just gotten use to turning a deaf ear to what they don't want to hear. They are so use to doing what they have been doing for years that the thought of getting a job or raising your family or taking some d**n accountability for your actions seems like a joke. Why change if no one is going to make them change. And lets face it, who is going to go down into the black community or the hispanic community and say this all has to stop. You are going to have to stop letting your kid run around the streets, sleeping with everybody. So I say to you chickenfriedcricket, I have told people about the elephant standing in the middle of the room, s****ing all over the place and what did they do. They turned around and acted like nothing was there.

Let's get back to talking about Bill. Bill is great. Was I the only one who watched the Cosby show religiously and laugh until I was almost crying?

Optimist.

I think the solution to the problems of America are so simple sometimes. Most are common sense, in fact. However, until people exercise some common sense, these problems will continue and we'll still be here talking about them. I guess all we can do is take care of what we can personally control (ourselves and our families). And spread the word to spay and neuter stupid people.

Yes, the Cosby show was great. Was anybody else annoyed by that weird sister that only came around once in a while? I liked the episodes when Bill Cosby messed with the little fat white kid (Rudy's friend). You remember...the one that wouldn't ever talk. Anyway, I remember. And I thought it was funny. That's all that matters.

I remember those. My favorite one was when Rudy and her friends were riding on Bills knee and he was hold them by the back of their shirts. Remember the one where Bill and his family were singing that old Ray Charles song for the grandparents. I think it was the grandparent's anniversary or something like that...

By "weird sister" do you mean the oldest one that got married to that nimrod turned doctor? If so, she was older and in college therefore not around a lot.

I watched an episode the other day where she an Alvin had broken up and her parents set her up on another date. It was funny. I could relate. Now I'm rambling.

The Cosby Show rules! I sit down whenever it's on and watch. I saw one a while back where Rudy went to the old lady's house and the old lady wouldn't take her pills. Love it.
