Opinions are great

Given the amount of feedback I've gotten recently about my views and opinions, I thought I'd stoke the fire a little bit more (not really). I just thought this Andy Rooney rant was very appropriate for this week, and I happen to agree with most of what he's saying here:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

And if you don't like my point of view, tough...

Opinions are great. Free thought is what makes this a great Country. We're all free to voice our opinions how we see fit. Some do it through protesting. Others do it through voting. Some start organizations that further their causes. Some people are just blowhards that tell everyone within earshot how they feel about things. I probably do a combination of these things, as well as post my opinions on my blog. I'm not an activist. I really don't care if people agree with me or not. If I can make someone think, cool. If not, that's cool too. I mostly post for my own entertainment and the entertainment of my friends that visit this site. I don't apologize for my views, because that is what I believe in. If you happen to disagree, that is fine with me. Nobody is making you read my blog. I'm not the most politically correct person, nor do I claim to be. Actually, I can't stand political correctness. If you feel a certain way - say what you think.

I hope everybody has a great Friday, and if that offends anyone...too bad. :) (you never know these days. There might be some anti-happy Friday group somewhere that takes offense)

It has been my experience that those who feel the need to preface statements/opinions with "I'm not racist, but" or "I don't mean to gay bash, but" - usually are and do.

You must realize that some readers (I imagine I am but one of many) will view your anti-gay comments as hate speech. Using words like “repulsive” to describe a group of people (and by “people” I mean human beings) is going to ruffle more than a few feathers.

In regards to your “Brokeback Mountain” post -- what if you were to substitute “gays” for “Christians”, “Muslims” or “Jews”? Imagine saying “It’s my opinion – which I am entitled to on MY blog, that Muslims are repulsive.”

You can justify your bigotry with Bible quotes all you want, but WWJD? Would He condone using His word to perpetuate discrimination? I would hope not.

Oh, and as an aside: if you’re going to review a movie, you should probably actually *see* it first.

I’ll make you a deal; I’ll attend a KKK meeting, if you attend a PFLAG meeting.

Emily Rugburn -

I'm not sure who you are, but you seem to like my blog (since you're always reading it). Thanks for visiting.

Since your vast experience qualifies you to imply that I'm a racist or a gay basher, I'll see if I can clear some things up for you.

You can view my comments any way you wish, honey. Just because YOU happen to view it as "hate speech" doesn't make it so. Never have I said I hate anybody. Not once. And I stand by my previous statements. Men reaming other men's poop chutes with their wang does, in fact, repluse me. Absolutely. 100%. Much like a donkey show in Mexico would repulse me. For those who don't know what a donkey show is, it's where a woman and a donkey are on stage and doing various "activities" that are unnatural. If that hurts your feelings, Emily - I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you have a stronger stomach for this kind of stuff. Who knows? In any case, I'm not here to cottle people. If you don't like what I have to say, I'm not forcing you to come back here.

If you want to substitute gays with Christians, Muslims, Jews, Midgets, etc. then go for it. Go right ahead and post that on your blog, Emily. I don't mind at all. I wouldn't be offended in any way. You may very well be repulsed by Muslims. How would I know? It's certainly your right to voice your opinion. I wouldn't think of stopping you, or even caring about what you think. Because that's all it is...what you think.

I'm not justifying any "bigotry" with anything. What I'm saying is my OPINION, sweetcheeks. I'm not denying people jobs based on their sexual orientation, race, religion, etc...nor would I ever think of doing such a thing. Me NOT AGREEING with their lifestyle is a far cry from discriminating against them or being a bigot.

WWJD?? I would not ever think of speaking on behalf of J.C. or what he would do. I speculate that he would be ministering to homosexuals though. That's what He does.

KKK meeting? You can attend all the KKK meetings you want, Emily. If that's what you're into. I'm personally not interested in fraternizing with racist organizations myself though. You can attend a Black Panthers meeting or attend pagan sacrifices for all I care. That's what you don't seem to understand about me. I don't care what anybody does. Just don't bombard ME with it or try to change the value systems of our schools to teach it to the children of America.

As far as your PFLAG meeting goes...I'm not sure what is it, but thanks for the invitation. My schedule is kind of full right now though, so I'll have to politely decline.

Thanks for stopping by! :)
